This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required by a studio Instructor to enable you to plan, instruct and evaluate sessions for groups of individuals with a variety of experience and fitness levels in both traditional aerobics and step.

- Principles of Training
- The Role of the Exercise to Music Instructor
- Music Breakdown and choreography
- Instructor Skills
- How to plan, instruct and evaluate Exercise to Music and Step sessions
- How to adapt your session plans to meet individual participant needs
- How to promote the adoption of physical activity
- Health, Safety and Professionalism

Course requirements
You should have experience of attending exercise to music sessions and during the course you will gain further knowledge and skills by participating in work experience activities in the studio environment.
Assessment for Exercise to Music
You will submit a portfolio of evidence which contains the following:
- Screening documentation for all participants
- Session Plan designed for Group Exercise to Music Session
- Risk assessment for the planned session
- Health and Safety Worksheet
- Promote the Adoption of Physical Activity Worksheet
You will then be observed instructing your planned exercise to music session. Following assessment you will carryout a written evaluation of your performance and create an action plan for your continued professional development.
There is also a multiple choice theory paper which is externally set and marked by the Awarding Body.
Assessment for Step
You will submit a portfolio of evidence which contains the following:
- Screening documentation for all participants
- Session Plan designed for Group Exercise to Music Session
- Risk assessment for the planned session
As with your Exercise to Music assessment, you will then be observed instructing your planned step session. Following assessment you will carryout a written evaluation of your performance and create an action plan for your continued professional development.
Attendance Requirements
Distance Study – You have the option to attend 2 training days and you are required to attend 2 assessment days on which you will complete all your assessments. You may however choose to be assessed by video and for your theory assessment you may organise to be assessed at a recognised assessment facility such as a local university or college. Conditions apply.
