This gym course with circuits will give you an introduction into fitness programme design covering both resistance training and cardiovascular training. You will also learn about the various body systems and the effects of exercise upon them. This will enable you to plan, instruct and evaluate a variety of circuit training sessions.

As a Fitness Instructor you will be able to write programmes for clients wishing to achieve a variety of fitness goals and plan circuit training sessions using a wide range of equipment for clients of multiple levels of fitness and experience.
Gym Course Requirement
You should have some experience of using a gym and attending circuit training sessions and during the course you will gain further knowledge and skills by participating in work experience activities in the gym and circuit environment
Assessment for Gym Instructor
You will submit a portfolio of evidence which contains the following:
- Screening documentation for a participant
- Session plan
- Risk assessment for the planned session
- Evidence of CPR/First Aid Certificate
- Health and Safety Worksheet
- Promote the Adoption of Physical Activity Worksheet
You will then be observed instructing your planned session. Following the assessment you will carryout a written evaluation of your performance and create an action plan for your continued professional development.
There is also a multiple choice theory paper which is externally set and marked by the Awarding Body.
Assessment for Circuit Training
You will submit a portfolio of evidence which contains the following:

As with your gym assessment, you will then be observed instructing your planned session. Following the assessment you will carryout a written evaluation of your performance and create an action plan for your continued professional development.
Accreditation of Prior Achievement (APA)
If you already hold a current (achieved within the last 3 years) Fitness Instructing Gym qualification you may apply for Accreditation of Prior Achievement for the Fitness Instructing Gym and move straight onto the Circuit Instructor part of the course at a reduced cost.
Attendance Requirement
Distance Study – You have the option to attend 2 training days and you are required to attend 2 assessment days on which you will complete all your assessments. You may however choose to be assessed by video and for your theory assessment you may organise to be assessed at a recognised assessment facility such as a local university or college.
